The ACT test preparation service Test Ninja will present a free workshop, “Navigating the ACT/SAT process,” for parents of high school juniors on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 2-3:30 p.m. The workshop is open to parents of students in Asheville, and Buncombe, Haywood and Henderson county public schools, and at private and charter schools, plus homeschoolers.
All public school juniors in North Carolina will take the ACT test on Feb. 20 for use in college admissions and scholarships next year. Any high school student can also take the ACT test at various other dates in 2019.
The workshop location is Room 345 of the Western Carolina University campus at Asheville’s Biltmore Park Town Square, 28 Schenck Parkway. Parking is free.
The Feb. 2 workshop will include a comparison of the ACT and SAT tests, the scoring process and proven ACT test strategies.
“The college entrance testing process is new for many parents, and it can be confusing and stressful,” said Test Ninja founder Saul Chase. “In addition, many people aren’t aware of how big a stake the ACT test has in awarding scholarship money.
“The more you know about the ACT and SAT, the easier it is to plan an effective and efficient test-taking strategy,” Chase said. “Parents are part of the equation.”
A retired N.C. public school educator, Saul Chase founded Test Ninja with his son Dan Chase, the Carolina Day School math department chair and a graduate of the N.C School of Science and Mathematics. Together the father-and-son team has more than 30 years of standardized test preparation experience in Western North Carolina. Dan Chase is the director of Test Ninja.
