Apartment List releases report for Asheville renter households

Press release from Apartment List:

Today, virtually 50% of all renter households are housing cost-burdened, spending more than the recommended 30% of their incomes on rent. We are living through the longest U.S. economic expansion on record, but for many, housing costs are eating away at any celebration. For the first time since 2014, renter cost burden has worsened nationally.

Apartment List’s latest report breaks down newly released American Community Survey data to identify key trends among the millions of U.S. households who struggle with housing costs. We found that the share of renters who struggle to afford their housing is on the rise nationwide.
Some key findings include:

The cost burden rate in Asheville increased from 50.0% in 2017 to 50.4% in 2018. This is greater than the national average of 49.5%

17.8% of renter households in Asheville are severely cost-burdened, while 32.6% are moderately burdened.
