APD seeking help to identify assault suspect

Press release from Asheville City Police:

At 11 p.m. on October 26, the Asheville Police Department (APD) responded to a report of an assault on Merrimon Avenue just north of downtown. The officers arrived to find that a male victim had been struck in the head with a metal object, causing a serious, but non life-threatening injury. The initial investigation revealed that the victim was accosted for money, and when he refused, he was struck by the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, short in stature, with long brown hair, some facial hair, and carrying a metal cane.

This incident remains under investigation. If anyone has information concerning this incident, or on the identity of the suspect, they are encouraged to contact the APD at 828-252-1110.
