Full announcement from the Asheville Police Department:
On 04-20-12 at approx. 2:32 pm; Traffic Safety Unit Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Haywood Street near North French Broad Avenue. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking eastbound on the sidewalk and for an unknown reason fell into the westbound lane of Haywood Street under the right rear wheel of a 2007 Toyota Tacoma which was traveling westbound on Haywood Street. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Charles Gilbert Calloway of Weaverville and was not injured during this low speed traffic crash. The pedestrian (identified as Soheil Antonio Mojarrad of Raleigh) was transported to Mission Hospital where he is currently in Neuro ICU with potentially life-threatening injuries. No charges will be filed as a result of this traffic crash against Mr. Calloway.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Mojarrad had been reported as a missing person to the Asheville Police Department on 04/19/12 @ 5:15 pm and was entered NCIC as endangered . The reporting party (listed as parent) from the missing person report was contacted by APD Chaplains at Mission Hospital. The parent is currently enroute from Cary, NC to Mission Hospital at this time.
