From the Asheville Police Department (full release):
ASHEVILLE – On Saturday, 02-11-12, at approx. 4:38 am; APD Patrol Units responded to a report of a gun discharge at 17A Lee Walker Heights Apartments located at 50 Wilbar Ave. near downtown Asheville.
The caller reported that Kavon Clayton of 55 Dogwood Court in East Asheville, fired two rounds from a handgun into his apartment and provided officers with a clothing description of the suspect. Officer Hickman located Mr. Clayton and engaged in a brief foot pursuit into the woods, but the suspect was able to escape.
Officers then met with the victim and confirmed that two rounds had been fired into the occupied dwelling. A short time later, Kavon Clayton was found on Biltmore Avenue near Smile Starters, identified as the shooter, and arrested. Clayton was charged with Firing into an Occupied Dwelling, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill, and Trespassing. He is currently being held on a $10,500.00 dollar secure bond.
During the above incident, Officer Hickman sustained a serious sprain to his left ankle, from the original foot chase of the suspect. He was treated and released from Mission.
