Here’s the press release:
APD Recognizes Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week.
ASHEVILLE – In our community, the Asheville Police Department’s Animal Services Unit provides assistance and support not generally evident to the public. These services include investigating animal cruelty and animal attacks, securing and regulating dangerous or nuisance animals, and educating residents about responsible pet ownership. The position of Animal Services Officer frequently involves long hours and hazardous assignments. While the duties are sometimes difficult, the rewards are great and come in many forms. The reward might be as simple yet gratifying as reuniting a lost pet with an owner.
The Asheville Animal Services team consists of four Animal Services Officers serving the City of Asheville. They are not Police Officers, but rather a specially trained unit, skilled in resolving animal issues. To report a concern or seek assistance please call 828-252-1110. To inquire about the local ordinance or related topics call 828-259-5872. You will also find information about Animal Services by visiting the City web page at www.ashevillenc.gov.
