Asheville-based Musicians For Overdose Prevention call on Big Pharma to lower price of Narcan

Press release from Musicians for Overdose Prevention:

BALTIMORE, MD — Last week, Asheville-based Musicians for Overdose Prevention joined Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition, Long Live GoGo, the Center for Artistic Activism, and Maryland Peer Advisory Council and drove up to Emergent BioSolutions’ Baltimore office — in a flatbed truck outfitted with amps and instruments, bearing the sign #NoProfitForNarcan— to urge the pharmaceutical company to lower the cost and increase availability of its trademarked nasal naloxone.

#NoProfitForNarcan sheds light on the fact that people are dying every day because they cannot afford this necessary medication, while the manufacturers rake in more and more profits. Despite Emergent BioSolutions declaring hundreds of millions in profits from Narcan sales last year alone, the past year was the deadliest yet for overdoses––claiming over 108,000 American lives. Emergent BioSolutions must make Narcan available at prices that individuals and nonprofits can afford, and take a meaningful step in combating the overdoses crisis.

Musicians for Overdose Prevention have distributed naloxone to music venues across Buncombe County as well as over 300 independent bands across other states.
