Asheville community to gather for rally supporting transgender youth

Press release from Campaign for Southern Equality:

ASHEVILLE – This week the North Carolina General Assembly advanced HB808, a bill that would restrict access to gender-affirming medical care for transgender people under the age of 18. The bill follows a dangerous national trend of banning gender affirming health care for transgender youth, defying best practices and recommendations of medical experts. Several other anti-LGBTQ+ bills have advanced through the crossover deadline and could become law this year.

In response, supporters of transgender equality all across the state are organizing events in support of transgender youth. The Asheville community will gather on Friday, May 5 at 5:00pm for a rally downtown that will feature speakers, including parents, trans young people, and advocates for transgender equality. Media are invited to the event. Details are below:

WHAT: Rally to Support Transgender Youth in NC and Oppose Extremism at the NCGA
WHERE: Pack Square Park, Lower Stage area – 80 Court Plaza
WHEN: Friday, May 5, 5-6:30pm ET
HOSTS: This event is being hosted by the Campaign for Southern Equality, Equality NC, Youth OUTright, Blue Ridge Pride, and Planned Parenthood of Asheville.
