Press Release
Friends of Connect Buncombe
Friends of Connect Buncombe is proactively trying to advance a strong vision for the Brevard Road Corridor which hosts many regional attractions (WNC Farmer’s Market, Bent Creek, NC Arboretum, the new Asheville Outlets, and is an entryway to the Blue Ridge Parkway). This is one of the richest destination roads in the County. Friends of Connect Buncombe would like to make it more so and believe collaborating with businesses along this corridor to evaluate greenways and trails is good for the Asheville region and promotes tourism, economic development, health, recreation, diverse and safe transportation options, sustainability, and will help our community connect with the cultural heritage and beauty of Buncombe County.
Asheville Outlets, located at the I-26 and Brevard Road interchange, will be the destination for shopping in the greater Asheville, North Carolina market when it opens spring of 2015. This 325,000 square foot open air center will feature approximately 75 top manufacturer and retail outlets. With no other outlet center within 80 miles, the retailers at Asheville Outlets are sure to thrive from the strong residential and tourism markets. Asheville Outlets is excited to be joining Friends of Connect Buncombe and supporting the County in evaluating the feasibility of Greenways and Trails with a generous donation.
At the beginning of June, Friends of Connect Buncombe launched a $20,000 crowdfunding campaign for a feasibility study for Greenways and Trails from the existing French Broad River and Hominy Creek Greenways to connect to the Farmer’s Market, NC Arboretum and Bent Creek Trails and Biltmore Park. To date, FoCB has raised over $9,000 towards their goal.
