Asheville Police arrest man on felony probation charges

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

Asheville, NC (January 26, 2024): Asheville Police Department detectives and officers, in conjunction with State Law Enforcement, partnered to arrest a wanted felony probation violator Wednesday morning on drug charges, multiple open warrants, and failing to appear in court on charges.

Officers located Isaiah Cain Gregory Smith (12/14/1998) near the 70 block of Hubbard Avenue around 11:48 a.m. on January 24. Smith was wanted on multiple felony probation and parole violations, failing to appear in court on several crimes, and open warrants stemming from an armed robbery that occurred on January 5 at a hotel on Wedgefield Drive.

When officers made contact with Smith, he decided to flee on foot; shortly after, he was taken into custody. During the arrest, he was found to be in possession of more than a gram of fentanyl.

-Warrant: Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

-Warrant: Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill

-Warrant: Parole Violation

-Warrant: Felony Probation Violation x2

-Warrant: Felony Probation Violation Out of County

-Failure to Appear on Felony Identity Theft x2

-Failure to Appear on Larceny

-Charged: Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance

Smith was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under NO BOND (not eligible for release due to a violation of the Pretrial Integrity Act.)
