Asheville Police arrest wanted felon on drug and assault charges

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

Asheville, NC (May 31, 2024): Asheville Police Department officers and detectives located and apprehended a wanted felon in possession of crack cocaine, as well as wanted for assaulting an officer.

While on routine patrol on May 30th, around 1:54 p.m., an officer in the area of Livingston Street attempted to contact Bruce Edward Smith (02/29/88), who was wanted for failure to appear in court on drug charges. During the interaction, Smith assaulted an officer and fled the scene. 

Later that afternoon, APD detectives located Smith in the nearby area and took him into custody on his open warrants and other charges from the earlier incident.  During the arrest, he was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

Later that evening, detectives made contact with Dennis Aguilar Scott (3/12/1973), who was wanted for a parole violation. Scott was taken into custody without incident. 

Arrested:

Bruce Edward Smith (2/29/1988)

-Warrant: Assault on Law Enforcement Inflicting Physical Injury

-Warrant: Resist, Delay, Obstruct

-Warrant: Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle

-OFA: Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle

-OFA: Possession With Intent to Sell or Deliver Schedule VI

-OFA: Felony Possess Schedule VI

-OFA: Possess Drug Paraphernalia

Smith was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under NO BOND (ineligible for release) by a magistrate due to the Pretrial Integrity Act.
