Asheville Police investigating Halloween night fatal motorcycle collision

Asheville Police Department Patrol Officers are continuing to investigate a motorcycle collision that occurred on Haywood Road Halloween night that claimed the life of the driver.

APD Patrol Officers responded to the scene of the collision at the Interstate I-240 East on-ramp from Haywood Road around 8:31 p.m. on October 31. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by Derrick White (07/13/69)  was traveling westbound on Haywood Road through the intersection where the I-240 East on-ramp is located. At the same time, a maroon 2006 GMC Yukon traveling eastbound attempted to turn left onto the I-240 East ramp and struck the motorcycle.

White was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on November 5th; next of kin has been notified.
