Asheville Tea Party to protest at IRS Office

Here’s the press release from The Asheville Tea Party:

On Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 12 noon, The Asheville Tea Party, Incorporated will be gathering to protest the IRS abuse of power and to reaffirm Asheville Tea Party’s support for the Fair Tax that will eliminate the out of control IRS. The protest will take place at the IRS Office at 151 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.

Asheville Tea Party has joined in with other citizen groups across the country on Tuesday, May 21st, for a national day of protest of the IRS’s unfair treatment of conservative groups.

“Asheville Tea Party, Incorporated, has been one such group that was repeatedly told since 2012 that we were not a tax exempt organization, a 501(c) 3. Losing our tax exempt status affects donations. We were told that we would have to file again as a 501(c)4, but the paper work never came which added to the frustration of filing our 2012 tax return,” said Chairwoman, Jane Bilello.

Additionally, “The Asheville Tea Party (ATP) has been registered on the North Carolina Secretary of State page since April 2009 as a 501 (c) 3. The IRS accepted ATP’s 1023 tax exempt filing form in April 2012 along with the filing fee. After the filing, we were getting phone calls from the IRS that we were not a tax exempt organization because of our “activities.” We promote education forums including the annual We Read the Constitution Day, workshop about our Founders and the Constitutional principles upon which our nation was founded.”

ATP supports government fiscal responsibility and accountability as required by the Constitution of our free Republic. We demand that the Federal Government immediately enact the following practices:

· Elimination of all earmarks and ‘pork projects’ from federal legislation and an enforceable commitment to transparency
· Elimination of all bail outs and ‘stimulus’
· Adoption of a simple, Constitutional system of taxation
· Reduction of corporate income tax rates
· Reduction in national debt reduction plan with measurable goals
· Elimination of the Federal Reserve Banks’ practice of printing new currency
· Commencement of an audit of the Federal Reserve Bank
· Adoption of an energy policy based upon free market principles

ATP is also making May 21st a day to reaffirm our commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability through the Fair Tax. (FairTax.org) Fair Tax eliminates the federal income tax, the payroll tax, and the IRS by repealing the 16th Amendment. It is backed by $22 million in research as well as many top economists and volunteers across the nation. It’s simple. It’s fair. It’s transparent. You get to have individual control over your income and productivity because you keep what you earn.

Join WE THE PEOPLE to once again exercise our First Amendment … “right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
