Warren Wilson College sustainable agriculture professor Laura Lengnick will address issues of farming in a changing climate and building resilient and sustainable food systems at her free talk and panel discussion on Monday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m.
The event, held in anticipation of Lengnick’s upcoming release of Resilient Agriculture: Cultivating Food Systems for a Changing Climate, will largely explore the impacts of climate change on US-based food systems. Lengnick’s resume also includes lead authorship of US Department of Agriculture report entitled, “Climate Change and U.S. Agriculture: Effects and Adaptation.”
Following Lengnick’s talk is a panel discussion on local food systems, moderated by Charlie Jackson, director of Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. Panelists include Dr. Lengnick; Jim Fox, Director for the National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC); Sally Eason, CEO of Sunburst Trout Farms; Dr. Allison Perrett, Researcher with ASAP’s Local Food Research Center.
