Press release
From the City of Asheville
ASHEVILLE – Beginning October 2 leaf bags will be available at the local Fire Stations on a first come first served basis during the fall leaf season. The shift to bagged leaf collection was made in an effort to increase frequency of leaf collection, improve public safety, improve water quality, and address community concerns.
The City is continuing bagged leaf collection for 2012 – 2013 in lieu of the vacuum trucks resulting in a savings of over $83,000.00 each year in operational costs.
To ensure your leaves are collected, please place in untied bags or a reusable container marked “leaves”. Bagged leaves are collected twice per month and should be placed to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week. Bag and containers will be left to be reused again.
For residents with a Monday and Tuesday trash collection, the bagged leaves will be collected the first and third week of each month. For Residents with a Wednesday and Thursday trash collection, the bagged leaves will be collected the second and forth week of the month.
Composting is another alterative for the loose leaves to be placed and is great for the soil in your garden.
