Blue Ridge Community College hosts FAFSA Night

Press release from Blue Ridge Community College:

Blue Ridge Community College is hosting free FAFSA Nights from 4-7 p.m. on June 16, 23, 30 and July 7 to help any student interested in filling out their FAFSA.

FAFSA Nights are one of several ways the College is taking part in FAFSAFrenzyNC, which is a massive, state-wide push by myFutureNC to boost FAFSA numbers across North Carolina throughout the month of June.

A FAFSA, the federal application for student aid, is an online form students fill out to determine their eligibility for federal financial aid. While many students are often surprised at the amount of aid available to them, a large portion don’t fill out a FAFSA at all. Henderson County, for example, only has a 40-44% FAFSA completion rate.

At FAFSA Nights, participants will attend during a pre-selected time slot to fill out their FAFSA in the College’s Thomas Gallery.

Blue Ridge financial aid staff will be on-hand throughout the events to help with applications and answer questions.

In order to participate, a student must bring three documents including: driver’s license, 2018 tax returns (or their parents’ if they are a dependent) and their FSA ID and password.

In keeping with current health practices, all appropriate social distancing measures will be in place. Face masks are optional, but are highly recommended.

Participants can bring their own laptops, or use those provided by the College. All laptops will be properly sanitized after each new user.

Registration for FAFSA Nights is required in advance. Participants can either visit blueridge.edu/paying-for-college or call (828) 694-1815.

Participants are allowed to have one guest come with them.

Any student who participates in a FAFSA Night will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
