Bullington Gardens celebrates end-of-year student Awards

Press release from Bullington Gardens:

Bullington Gardens proudly announces the winners during its annual end-of-year student awards, recognizing the exceptional talents and dedication of Henderson County Public School students in the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) and Exceptional Children programs. This year’s award ceremony celebrated the creativity and hard work of both student groups.  Tenth grade OCS students in the BOOST horticultural therapy program at the gardens participated in the highly anticipated ‘Best Garden’ contest, a cornerstone project that focuses on teaching vocational skills through horticulture education.

Throughout the academic year, the students worked on garden design and cultivation, each given a $50 budget to create their unique garden plots. From conceptualizing their garden themes to planting seeds in the greenhouse and finally transplanting their plants in the spring, the students showcase their skills in planning, teamwork, and working towards a goal. The project culminated Thursday with students presenting their completed gardens.  Judges evaluated the gardens based on creativity, design, and execution.

This year, the coveted title of ‘Best Garden’ was awarded to the 10th-grade class from West Henderson High School. Their enchanting Fairy Theme Garden captivated the judges with its imaginative design and meticulous attention to detail. The garden featured whimsical fairy houses, vibrant flowers, and intricately designed pathways, creating a garden design that stood out among the impressive entries from other schools, East Henderson High, North Henderson, and Hendersonville High School.

Bullington Gardens extends its congratulations to the students of West Henderson High School, their teacher, Ms. Sue Polovina, and all participants for their efforts and achievements. The program not only highlights the students’ horticultural talents but also underscores the importance of working in a team and practicing valuable skills that will serve them in the workforce. As the gardens continue to bloom, Bullington Gardens remains committed to nurturing the next generation of gardeners and environmental stewards.
