Press release from Buncombe County Board of Elections:
In accordance with NCGS § 163-182.5, the Buncombe County Board of Elections met today to complete the certification of votes cast in the Nov. 7, 2023 municipal election. Canvass is the official process of determining whether the votes have been counted and tabulated correctly, resulting in the authentication of the official election results.
For close elections, the canvass period is especially important. During this time, elections officials count absentee ballots that came in before the deadline and research provisional ballots. These votes are added to the unofficial results that were released on Election night.
In today’s public meeting, the County Board of Elections examined the returns from precincts, absentee official ballots, the sample hand-to-eye paper ballot counts, and provisional official ballots to conduct the canvass. The CBE voted to certify the election results at 11:45 a.m. Find the official results at buncombecounty.org/vote. The next meeting of the Buncombe County Board of Elections will take place on Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Election Services office, 59 Woodfin Place, Asheville.
