Asheville, NC – June 7, 2013 – Bus driver Thornton Lee Smith was awarded the Tracy Lea Calhoun Memorial Award at the Buncombe County School Board of Education meeting on June 6. This award recognizes him for his excellence in driving and the exceptional care he provides for the students of Buncombe County Schools. “T. Lee” Smith, as he is affectionately known, has driven for 24 years and has done so with a spotless driving record. He currently drives for Cane Creek Middle School.
“He has always gone out of his way to help out in other areas when needed,” said Buncombe County Schools Director of Transportation Joseph Hough. “Mr. Smith is an asset to both the school and the community.”
The award is sponsored by Asheville Oil Company Smokey Mountain Heating & Air.
