Press release from Muddy Sneakers:
Children from around Western North Carolina have a new way to experience the joy of being outside this summer as Muddy Sneakers’ award-winning day camp moves to the gorgeous REEB Ranch. Located between Hendersonville and Brevard with a shuttle running from Asheville, Camp Muddy Sneakers’ new base camp offers a venue that’s convenient to much of the region.
The REEB Ranch, adjacent to DuPont State Recreational Forest, provides a stunning landscape for younger campers to explore and a perfect launching pad for older campers to embark on new adventures. Its 145 acres include lightly traveled woodland trails that lead to hidden treasures such as creeks, waterfalls, rock formations, meadows, and pine groves. The property’s proximity to a plethora of public lands will allow campers to explore Holmes Educational State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, Gorges State Park, and the Green River Game Lands.
This year, Camp Muddy Sneakers is bringing the joy of being outside to a wider range of age groups. Its new Curious Critters camp will let children age 4-6 join in the fun with activities at the kid-friendly base camp. Nature Explorers, age 6-8, will explore deeper into the natural world, and Trail Blazers, age 9-11, will embark on field expeditions to nearby public lands while incorporating more ways of venturing farther through tubing, kayaking, and river snorkeling. The eldest campers, age 12-14, will experience the new Outdoor Science Adventures, learning about fascinating local ecosystems through activities such as fly-fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing.
One-week day camp sessions take place June-August and include daily adventures plus special themed weeks: Aquatic Adventures, Nature Navigators, and Wild Woodlands. Curious Critters will attend for half-day sessions (8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.) while the Nature Explorers, Trail Blazers, and Outdoor Science Adventure camps will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. New this year, Camp Muddy Sneakers will offer extended, instructor-led care from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
