The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Monday that the last surviving daughter of world famous poet and historian Carl Sandburg, Helga Sandburg Crile, died Sunday in her home outside Cleveland, Ohio.
An accomplished writer in her own right, Crile lived at Sandburg’s estate, Connemara in Flat Rock, from 1945-1952. The author of 17 books, including novels, memoirs and books of poetry, Crile also lectured widely, raised Doberman pinschers and was an expert horsewoman.
She was 95 years old.
