Crowdfunding effort seeks to launch first phase of greenway connector plan

Press Release

Friends of Connect Buncombe

Imagine being able to someday safely walk or bike from Asheville to the NC Arboretum and onto Biltmore Park or vice versa. One of the eight priority corridors identified in the Buncombe County Greenways and Trails Master Plan is the corridor between the French Broad River and Hominy Creek Greenways, along Brevard Road, past the WNC Farmer’s Market, out to the hiking and biking trails of Bent Creek and the Arboretum, and then on to Biltmore Park.

On June 1, 2014 Friends of Connect Buncombe launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $20,000 for a feasibility study of the first phase of this plan from the existing French Broad River and Hominy Creek Greenways to the Farmer’s Market. Now, thanks to a partnership with the County, the $20,000 raised by FoCB will be leveraged as 20% matching funds to support a County grant application to increase the feasibility study area beyond the Farmer’s Market to include Bent Creek, the North Carolina Arboretum and Biltmore Park.

Thanks to the many sponsors who have already donated to our campaign! Raising funds for a feasibility study is FoCB’s first project and the first step in making this pathway a reality.
