Healthcare.gov open enrollment ends Jan. 15

Press release from Pisgah Legal Services:

If you need health insurance for 2023, now is the time to act. The Healthcare.gov Marketplace closes at midnight on Sunday, Jan. 15.

Pisgah Legal Services has helped hundreds of people in Western North Carolina find and enroll in quality, affordable plans during this year’s Open Enrollment period.

Kayla Boone is among those who have been helped. Boone had gone without health insurance for four years. She found herself putting off doctor’s visits and hoping for the best when she got sick. It was nerve-wracking. Boone said: “Sometimes you just don’t know what you’re dealing with.”

With help from Pisgah Legal Navigator Claire Kolberg, Boone was able to find a health care plan that wasn’t just affordable – it was free.

“I was afraid it would either be A. I’m not going to be able to get health insurance or B. I wouldn’t be able to afford health insurance,” Boone said. “It was actually the opposite.”

With a $0 premium and $0 deductible, Boone said she won’t have to worry about putting off visits to the doctor any longer.

Do you have questions about enrolling in a Marketplace plan? Pisgah Legal Services is participating in a free call-in event organized by the NC Navigator Consortium in partnership with WLOS ABC 13 News.

The call-in event will take place Monday, Jan. 9, from 4-7:30 p.m. Consumers living anywhere in North Carolina will be able get their health care questions answered by an expert Navigator and schedule a free appointment.

If you miss the telethon, you can call still Pisgah Legal Services at 828-210-3404 or reach the NC Navigator Consortium toll-free at 1-855-733-3711. Assistance is available in English and Spanish.
