The Hendersonville Times-News reports local community members and students from Brevard College joined forces on Saturday to give back to their community in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The 24th annual event was arranged by City of Brevard, Transylvania County’s Human Relations Council and Brevard College.
“This year, we wanted to make it bigger and better; and the tradition at the school was to have MLK Challenge Day and it was just the students going out into the community,” said Director of Community and Volunteer Services at Brevard College Gabrielle Mellendorf, 29,. “Well, working with the Human Relations Council and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s passion about working with the community and giving back service – why not combine the two?”
