According to WBIR TV, “Knoxville’s Metro Pulse alternative weekly newspaper is ceasing operations as of Wednesday afternoon, staff members told 10News.” The paper’s owner, the Knoxville News Sentinel, announced it is laying off 23 employees, according to WBIR.
According to the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, “Based in Knoxville, Tenn., Metro Pulse began publishing in 1991 and was acquired by Scripps subsidiary Knoxville News Sentinel Media Group in 2007.”
