From League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe:
Voters in Buncombe County will have a chance to meet and listen to candidates for Buncombe County Commissioner and Chair in advance of the March Primary Election. The Candidate Forum will be held on Monday, March 1, 6-8 PM, at the YWCA of Asheville (185 S. French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC). The nonpartisan event is presented by the League of Women Voters of Asheville Buncombe, Democracy NC, and Children First/Communities In Schools and will feature candidates in contest for Buncombe County Commissioner District #1 and #2 and for the Chair position.
Casey Blake, Community Engagement Editor at the Asheville Citizen-Times, will moderate the forum. Candidates will be asked questions on a range of important issues generated by voters participating in a pre-forum survey.
“With the presidential primaries getting the majority of media attention, many voters don’t know the candidates running at our local level,” notes Margarita Gonzalez of the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe.
“This nonpartisan forum provides a chance to hear from candidates who may soon be in a position to make decisions that will affect the lives of everyone in our County. We hope everyone will use the online survey to help ensure we focus on the topics most important to our community,” Gonzalez continues.
Early voting for the Primary Election begins Thursday, March 3, 2016. For information on Early Voting Sites and questions about voter registration, contact the Buncombe County Board of Elections at 828-250-4200.
Additional cosponsors of the forum include: Asheville City Schools Foundation, Carolina Jews for Justice, NAACP – Asheville Branch, OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling, and YWCA of Asheville.
