Leicester inventor inducted into Polyurethane Foam Association’s Hall of Fame posthumously

During a ceremony in Florida on Thursday, May 21, Charles A. Yost, inventor and founder of Leicester-based memory foam manufacturing company Dynamic Systems Inc., was inducted into the Polyurethane Foam Association’s Hall of Fame. One of Yost’s most notable accomplishments was the invention of Temper material — originally developed in 1969 under a NASA contract for airline seating purposes.

Here’s more information from Dynamic Systems:

Dynamic Systems was incorporated in 1967 and began by manufacturing Temper foam which was developed by Mr. Yost in 1969 as part of a NASA contract to engineer safer airline seating. The business started as a one-man operation out of a basement in a house on Chateau Place in Kenilworth. As the business grew, it subsequently moved to Madison County and continued to expand over the decades to become a 22,000 square-foot facility employing approx. 20 people from the surrounding community. It now produces improved next-generation foams, SunMate, Pudgee, and Liquid SunMate FIPS (Foam-in-Place Seating). Sales average about $2.7 million per year.
