Since its inception 30 years ago, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has directly served nearly 1,000 adults and children and indirectly served thousands more thanks to the generational and societal impact of Habitat homeownership. Asheville Area Habitat was the first Habitat affiliate in the state of North Carolina, and Executive Director Lew Kraus (at the helm since 1988) is the longest serving Habitat for Humanity Executive Director in the U.S.
Celebrating 30 years, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has welcomed 242 Buncombe County families to safe, decent and affordable houses since 1983. Habitat homes, which are Green Built North Carolina certified, are sold at no-profit to partner families, who pay back a no-interest loan. The non-profit also offers a home repair program for low-income homeowners. Visit www.ashevillehabitat.org for more information.
