Asheville, N.C., April 17, 2012 – For the fourth-straight year, Thomson Reuters has named Mission Hospital one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals.
Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and qualitative solutions to the healthcare industry, uses objective research and independent public data to determine its 100 Top Hospitals. The annual study evaluates hospitals across the nation on measures of overall organization, performance, patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability.
“Mission Hospital is honored to have been recognized by Thomson Reuters,” Mission Hospital COO Jill Hoggard-Green said. “We are a Top 100 Hospital, in large part, due to our staff’s dedicated service and commitment to excellence. We intend to continue providing quality healthcare and compassionate service to western North Carolina.”
Mission Hospital was named one of the Top 100 out of nearly 3,000 U.S. hospitals. The award is a testament to Mission’s ability to achieve high-quality patient outcomes, while improving efficiency. According to Thomson Reuters’ annual study*, annual metrics for Medicare inpatients would be significantly improved if every hospital in the country performed at the level of Mission and the other Top 100 Hospitals:
· Nearly 116,000 additional patients would survive each year
· More than 197,000 patient complications would be avoided annually
· The average patient stay would decrease half a day
· Expense per adjusted discharge would drop by $462
*Based on analysis of Medicare inpatients over one year
The recognition comes on the heels of Mission Health–comprised of Mission Hospital and its member and managed facilities–being named one of Thomson Reuters Top 15 Health Systems in January of this year. This Top 15 study culled data from more than 300 organizations across the nation and singled out 15 hospital systems that achieved superior clinical outcomes based on a composite score of eight measures of quality, patient perception of care and efficiency.
