Montreat College would give up its name in a merger planned with Point University, college officials said. Montreat officials announced Monday they were pursuing a merger with the West Point, Ga., university.

Maybe this will help elevate the academic ranking (U.S. News & World Report’s annual issue) of Montreat from the bottom few among Tier 2 Southern Colleges (the actual ranking is omitted) to somewhere closer to Point University, which is ranked # 79 out of 100 Tier 2 Southern Colleges, with a graduation rate of 23%.
