National ‘Healing Hands for Arthritis’ event set for Sept. 18, local Massage Envy Spa to participate

Press release

From Massage Envy Spa:

ASHEVILLE, NC – – Massage Envy Spa and the Arthritis Foundation are once again joining forces to host the 3rd annual Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one‐day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight arthritis. On September 18, 2013, all Massage Envy locations will donate $10 from every one‐hour massage or facial to the Arthritis Foundation. Over the past two years, this event has raised over $1 million for this nonprofit diligently working to reduce the impact of arthritis on adults and children.

There are over 100 types of arthritis, a serious and sometimes deadly disease. Today, one in five adults and nearly 300,000 children suffer from the pain of arthritis. By the year 2030, an estimated 67 million or 25 percent of the projected total adult population will have arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation is the only nationwide, non‐profit health organization helping people take greater control of arthritis by leading efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases.

To make an appointment for the Healing Hands for Arthritis event, contact your nearest Massage Envy location. Reservations are now being accepted on a first‐come, first‐serve basis. All proceeds donated during Healing Hands for Arthritis will support the Arthritis Foundation’s nationwide efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis. Murad®, Massage Envy Spa’s exclusive skin care partner, will also donate 10 percent of all sales from their products sold at Massage Envy Spa locations during the event to the Arthritis Foundation. Additionally, Wyndmere and BioFreeze will donate 10 percent of all sales from their products from Massage Envy Spa locations.

Massage Envy members may also donate any or all of their unused pre-paid massage sessions to their local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, which the Foundation gives to arthritis sufferers in need.

“There’s no better way to give back than to treat yourself, a friend or family member to a relaxing and rejuvenating massage or facial,” said Jim Fitzsimmons, regional developer for Massage Envy North Carolina. “We strongly encourage the Charlotte metro community to come out on September 18 to help fight arthritis, a disease that affects 50 million Americans and is America’s leading cause of disability.”

Massage Envy Spa and the Arthritis Foundation share a common understanding about the devastating effects of arthritis on the body and the potential for massage therapy to relieve and control certain symptoms. Massage therapy can play an important role in alleviating the pain and swelling caused by arthritis, improving flexibility and circulation and reducing stress and anxiety. In addition to hosting Healing Hands for Arthritis, Massage Envy Spa is a national sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation’s signature event, Arthritis Walk®. Massage Envy owners from across the country have been and continue to have a presence at their local Arthritis Walk events to share information about the benefits of massage therapy, provide chair massages and support the Arthritis Foundation’s mission.

“We are excited to partner with Massage Envy Spa to bring attention to arthritis. Healing Hands for Arthritis will provide support for arthritis education, research, advocacy and other vital programs and services,” said Rick Bell, managing director of cause development for the Arthritis Foundation.

Over the past two years, Massage Envy has donated nearly $100,000 to fund clinical research related to the benefits of massage therapy. Recent scientific studies have found that massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress levels and reduces recovery time in many medical conditions including arthritis. With consumers visiting massage therapists at least 140 million times a year, it is evident that more Americans are turning to therapeutic massage to relieve the painful symptoms of arthritis and fibromyalgia, while improving circulation, joint flexibility, sleep patterns and an overall sense of well‐being.
