New school year ushers in programming at Youth OUTright

Press Release

ASHEVILLE, NC…August 19, 2014…School is back in session, and Youth OUTright is geared up for another great year.  Programs are held every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in downtown Asheville.

Sunday 9/7

Young Voices Preview/rehearsal.  Performers for the September 11 Young Voices event will share their performances with YO youth this Sunday.  This is a chance for performers to rehearse their pieces, shake off their jitters, and give YO youth a preview of what September 11 will look like.

All of us at Youth Outright, invite you to join us for Young Voices, Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Asheville Jewish Community Center, 236 Charlotte Street.  This free community event, for which reservations are strongly recommended (space is limited), will be a celebration of our LGBTQ youth, their straight youth allies, and all the adults who are committed to making their lives better.  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and beverages will be served. There will be a short program of youth spoken-word performances.

Sunday 9/14

Trans* History timeline.  During this activity, participants will get to see major developments in trans* history and try their hand at placing them on a timeline.  This might be the most interesting (and surprising) history lesson you’ve ever had!

Sunday 9/21

UNCA Students from the Queer Youth Theatre course will visit YO and present activities.

Sunday 9/28

Movie night: TBA

Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc., a 501c-3, not-for-profit organization, offers discussion groups and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 14-23.
