Duke Energy and the City of Asheville are exploring the possibility of replacing the existing downtown substation on Rankin Avenue (behind Harrah’s Cherokee Center), with a modern substation across the street. Duke will host two public meetings on Thursday, August 11 at 9am and again at 4pm, as well as a virtual option on Monday, August 22 at 6pm. Attendees will have an opportunity for one-on-one conversations with specialists who are knowledgeable about the substation rebuild project. Meetings will be held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center. A group of business owners, employees and residents called Friends of Lexington Avenue has expressed concerns regarding the project. You can find more information on those concerns here.
