From State Employees’ Credit Union:
Raleigh, N.C. – Tax season is upon us and State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is ready to assist members with filing their 2013 tax returns, offering the no-cost Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and SECU’s own Low Cost Tax Preparation service. January 27th marks the start of SECU’s season of preparing federal and state tax returns in all 253 branches statewide.
Since 2008, these tax preparation programs have helped North Carolina taxpayers improve their financial condition, saving them millions of dollars each year. SECU personnel filed more than 77,000 returns in 2013, helping taxpayers claim nearly $49 million in total tax credits, including $27.6 million in Earned Income Tax Credits, and collectively saving taxpayers approximately $9.4 million in preparation fees.
SECU member Beverly Nelsen of Dunn, N.C. has benefited from SECU’s tax assistance. She notes, “I am so grateful to be able to take advantage of the tax services offered by State Employees’ Credit Union. SECU has saved me out-of-pocket expenses that I would have had to pay a tax preparer. My returns are handled in a professional and timely manner, and I know I can always count on the Credit Union to provide me with service I can depend on!”
“By providing free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, while offering a low cost service for those above the $52,000 VITA household income threshold, we are helping thousands of members keep more of their hard earned money,” remarks Tenesha Carter, Senior Vice President of SECU Tax Preparation Services. “Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our tax preparers across the State, we are making a tremendous difference for those we serve!”
