Sour Fest will begin at the Downtown location from July 6-10 and then at the Biltmore Park and Reynolds Village locations on July 16. Beer on tap will include kegs from Allagash, Stillwater, Boulevard, Green Man and more.

Thirsty Monk announces their annual celebration of sour beers, Sour Fest set for early July. The local beer bar that has grown from humble beginnings as a Belgian focused basement bar to a nationally recognized stalwart of the craft beer scene, will host an exciting lineup of sour beers on tap in July.
This year, Sour Fest will last for a full five days at the Downtown Monk, from July 6-10, and also have one-day only celebrations at the Biltmore Park and Reynolds Village Thirsty Monk locations on July 16. All three Thirsty Monk’s will have a plethora of rare and exciting kegs from favorite breweries of many beer connoisseurs, including Allagash, Prairie, Stillwater, Grimm, New Belgium, Boulevard, Monk’s Cafe, Weyerbacher, and many more, as well as local favorites like Green Man, Pisgah and Thirsty Monk’s own brewery.
“Sours beers have a long history in Belgium, and they’ve always been a mainstay at the Thirsty Monk,” said Chall Gray, the company’s Vice President, “so it’s been really exciting to see how their popularity has grown over the last few years. We’re expecting really good crowds and some fantastic sour beers.”
Sour beers, which typically have a tart or acidic taste, are made by purposefully introducing wild yeast strains or certain types of bacteria into the batch to give the beers a different flavor profile, often described as “funky.” In recent years their popularity has exploded, with many breweries now producing some type of sour–some of the most common styles are lambics, geuzes, wild ales, and goses.

This event from Thirsty Monk looks to be one of the most exciting beer events in Asheville this summer, and certainly not to be missed for beer enthusiasts.
