ASHEVILLE – There is one week left until Open Data Day in Asheville, the conference designed to explore the opportunities technology offers in making government data more easily accessible to the public. But registration ends this Friday, so get your tickets today!
Open Data Day Asheville is a participatory conference that brings together techies, public records experts, open information advocates and municipal representatives to look for and even create ways to put government data at your fingertips. Keynote speakers from Code for America and Open Data Philly will talk about how collaborations have provided real opportunities in cities around the country. The conference offers both a business and a technical track.
Breakout workshops will help identify opportunities and an on-site “hackathon” will allow programmers to put their heads together and develop technological solutions.
“When there is a problem that affects multiple groups of folks, getting together to plan and act is always a good idea,” says Jonathan Feldman, the City’s IT Services Director. “When you do, generally, people start to have good ideas and create relationships that they need to execute on those ideas. That’s where Open Data Day comes in.”
