Upcoming Veterans’ events in the Blue Ridge Mountains

The Western North Carolina VA Health Care System is fully operational, including the Charles George VA Medical Center and all Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Hickory, Franklin, and Forest City.

“We look forward to welcoming our veterans and continuing to provide the care they have rightfully earned and deserve,” said Stephanie Young, the executive director. “Please note that there is no access to the main facility via exit 55; instead, continue onto I-240 and take exit 7.”

With Veterans Day approaching, Young announced that, in partnership with the City of Asheville and the Veterans Council, a Veterans Day Ceremony will be held to bring the community together and honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Veterans Day Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 11, at the Charles George VA Medical Center at 11 a.m.

Upcoming Events for the Veterans Community:

  • November 13: Be Tobacco Free Resource Fair, hosted by the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System, to provide veterans with tools for health and well-being. This event will take place at the Charles George VA Medical Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  • November 13: Veteran Stand Down Burnsville, hosted by the North Carolina Division of Veterans Services, offering housing/shelter assistance, medical services, benefits, and more. This event will be held at the Burnsville Town Center, 6 S. Main St., from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    November 14: Veteran Stand Down Macon, at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building, 1288 Georgia Road, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    November 15: Western North Carolina Veterans Benefits Fair, hosted by the Winston-Salem VA Regional Office. This event will assist veterans in filing for VA benefits and receiving updates on pending claims. It will take place at the Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel, 31 Woodfin Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
