Volunteer for Downtown Clean Up Day on July 1

The Asheville Downtown Association (ADA) will host a Downtown Clean Up Day on Monday, July 1 from 8am to 5pm.

250 volunteers are needed to help in three shifts: 8-11am, 11am-2pm and 2-5pm. Businesses, organizations, clubs and associations are encouraged to volunteer as a group. Register here.

The ADA is working in partnership with Asheville GreenWorks, the leader in keeping Asheville and Buncombe County clean and green for more than 40 years. The Asheville Police Department’s Downtown Unit is also on board to assist with the cleanup as well as provide safety assistance. Several downtown businesses have committed teams including Tupelo Honey Cafe, Bouchon, Mountain BizWorks, Asheville Citizen-Times, The Brite Agency, Ward & Smith and Public Interest Projects. The City of Asheville’s Public Works Department will also assist with removal of trash bags.

“We hear time and time again that downtown has a cleanliness problem. We hear it from business owners, residents and visitors, but there’s no sustainable solution in place,” commented Byron Greiner, issues committee chair and past president of the ADA.

The following sponsors have made Downtown Clean Up Day possible: The Grove Arcade, Grainger Industrial Supply, Lexington Avenue Brewery, Strada Italiano and The Social Lounge, Proformance Inc., TD Bank, Ward & Smith, P.A., Mast General Store, Tupelo Honey Café, Early Girl Eatery and Biltmore Coffee Company.
