Western Carolina Rescue Ministries receives donation from Food Lion feeds Charitable Foundation

Press release from Western Carolina Rescue Ministries:

Asheville, NC – Western Carolina Rescue Ministries has received $2,200 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. Western Carolina Rescue Ministries will use the gift to contribute to a budget for its chef to purchase ingredients that are not regularly donated. Meals made from these foods will feed both the individuals in the organization’s long-term recovery programs, shelters and other individuals who depend on the organization for food.

“With a corporate partner like Food Lion, we are able to do more than provide a meal. We are also able to dispense love. This is what restores hope to a hurting world,” said Micheal Woods, Executive Director.

The mission of Western Carolina Rescue Ministries is to serve the homeless, poor and addicted populations of Western North Carolina. The organization aims to do this by providing rescue from the point of crisis and recovery through sustainable programs, resulting in physical, mental and spiritual restoration. The food services of the ministry are an integral component of the mission, as they provide an endeavor in which members of the long-term programs work with volunteers to feed hungry individuals on the street. The result is nutritious food reaching a disadvantaged population and authentic relationships being built through people from all different walks of life.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants.
