Full announcement from ECO WNC:
(HENDERSONVILLE, NC, April 30, 2012) – ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization, will host a Wild Plant Walk on Saturday, May 4 from 10-12 as part of its monthly Sustainable Living Workshop Series. The walk will be led by local naturalist Michele Skeele. She grew up walking in the forests of Western North Carolina and studied botany at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Skeele has taught Wildflower Identification at Blue Ridge Community College.
Participants in the Wild Plant Walk will learn to identify basic medicinal and edible plants in the area based on physical appearance, habitat, edible or medicinal properties, and how to distinguish look-alikes that may be harmful. Attendees should dress appropriately for an outdoor walk and wear comfortable shoes. Binoculars are also encouraged for those folks hopeful of catching a few spring migration glimpses.
This Sustainable Living Workshop requires advanced registration and costs $15 per person. To register, visit www.eco-wnc.org or call the ECO office at 692-0385. Details of event and meeting location will be provided after registration. The rain date for this event is Saturday, May 18th from 10-12.
