Duke Energy’s Feb. 2 Dan River coal ash spill was yet another horrible wake-up call about how this toxic waste shouldn’t be stored near our precious rivers and waterways.<

Across North Carolina, Duke Energy is storing coal ash (the toxic waste left over when coal is burned for energy) in unlined pits directly adjacent to our rivers, lakes, and in some cases, drinking water supplies.

These dangerous ponds put North Carolina in the national news when more than 30,000 tons of coal ash — laced with arsenic, mercury and lead — gushed into the Dan River. North Carolina is home to 14 coal ash sites with more than 30 coal ash ponds. And all of them are leaking toxic minerals into our water.

Join us — and people from across the state — in Raleigh on June 4 to tell our lawmakers to clean up toxic coal ash across North Carolina.

This will be a great opportunity for you (no experience is necessary!) to talk with your state legislators about why you want all of North Carolina’s dangerous coal ash ponds cleaned up.

Emails and phone calls always help — but a face-to-face meeting is priceless!
