The glass case that once exclusively displayed pastries and sweets at World Coffee now shares the same foodstuffs real estate with more lunch-friendly selections like salads and sandwiches.
According to World Coffee Food Manager Elaina Truluck, the downtown coffee shop only started diversifying its menu selection with sandwiches last week.
“It’s really part of a new goal that we have here,” she says. “We want to be able to give people sandwiches, and have the option of pressing it for them or just handing it to them if they’re on the go.”
The sandwiches range in price from about $6.50 to $9, and their ingredients come from a handful of local businesses. For example, the bread comes from City Bakery while Fresh Quarter Produce provides herbs and fruit.
However, if you’ve stepped into the local cafe within the last month, you’ve probably noticed some changes, including an additional cashiers counter.
It’s all part of a larger plan she envisions for the local spot. One idea includes hiring a personal chef of some sort in the café, Truluck shares.
“We’ve got a little community here with so many businesses around us. We’re the coffee shop for this building and the surrounding businesses,” she says. “We want people to be able to grab a quick bite to eat here without having to walk far, and without having to compromise on having something nutritious and delicious.”
Of the menu, Truluck says, “We’re hoping to grow it and expand it. We’re just trying to ease into it slowly.”
Here’s some of the lunch-friendly goodies you can now get at the same place where you get your morning coffee:
• Spinach salad
• Italian sandwich
• Roast beef sandwich
• Caprese sandwich
• Roasted turkey sandwich
• Peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich
