Love’s Labours Lost
Movie Information
For my money, this is possibly the worst of Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespeare adaptations, which I usually like. This one shifts the setting to the late '30s, because it was 2000 and recontextualizing Shakespeare was the style at the time. This adaptation also trumpeted what passed for an ensemble cast of young actors in those days, which means you’ll get to see Alicia Silverstone and Matthew Lillard try to tackle the Bard. This is not a plus in my book.
The Hendersonville Film Society will show Love's Labours Lost Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Smoky Mountain Theater at Lake Pointe Landing Retirement Community, 333 Thompson St., Hendersonville.

Aw, Scott, just because this movie is not a plus in your book, doesn’t mean it’s not charming, witty, thoughtful, and compelling in somebody else’s book. For my money, seeing this unique, creatively risky movie for free at the Hendersonville Film Society is the entertainment bargain of the summer.
