The Pyx
Movie Information
In Brief: Alternately title The Hooker Cult Murders, Canadian exploitation film The Pyx is most notable from an exemplary star turn from Karen Black (Easy Rider, Family Plot). Originally intended as a starring vehicle for James Mason, the film attempts to capitalize on contemporary cinematic trends established by prostitution themed melodramas such as Klute and occult suspense thrillers like Rosemary's Baby. Black plays a heroin-addicted call-girl who becomes entangled with a Satanic cult whose leader may be possessed by the devil himself, with predictable results. While the film bears all of the drawbacks of its exploitative origins, Black is fantastic and TV director Harvey Hart The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Star Trek) delivers some stylish scares.
