A new alternative-media project with a left-leaning political bent is just beginning to take root in Asheville. The Web-based Asheville Independent Media Center is a new addition to a global network of Indymedia Web sites, which are often used by environmental and social-justice activists to publish stories about their various causes.
On Asheville’s IMC, you can read about how the Coup Clutz Clowns stormed Knoxville last weekend, what’s going to influence traffic in downtown Asheville on Friday, June 8, or just publish your own benefit, news item or personal rant.
Asheville’s Independent Media Center will host a screening of the movie This is What Democracy Looks Like, followed by a dance party, at Eaties Cereal Bar (48 Commerce St., Asheville) this Friday, June 1, at 7 p.m. There is a suggested $5 donation.

Great! Another indie, left-leaning voice in Asheville. How many is that now? I lost count. Welcome to the crowd AIMC!
I say Welcome, Asheville Indymedia! I, along with many people, are super excited to have your web presence and grass roots efforts represent Asheville.
Can there be too many news outlets? I say the more merrier–better than one huge conglomeration that reflects mainstream media. I really hope people utilize this resource!
