Spruce up that plan a little

Money, money, blah, blah. Where is City Council’s respect for themselves? Does anyone except the money profiteers want another luxury high-rise in downtown Asheville? I don’t think so. The name Parkside Condominiums is a bit of an oxymoron anyway; condos never have gone well with parks.

Why should we have to fight with City Council about this issue? George Pack … said the area should remain a public park forever. Do large sums of money negate honoring [that]?

What happened to listening to the people? Go ahead and build the hotel. Who needs to look at the sky anyway? Doesn’t really change much with all the off-gas being pumped into it. Besides, the hotel will be a great hangout for loiterers. I’m sure graffiti artists will have a field day on the front of the building.

Go ahead and rip down that magnolia tree. While you’re at it, rip down a few more. What do we care? Nobody likes to hang out in parks anyway. It’s not like trees are good for anything. Peace of mind never was high on anyone’s priority list.

I propose a giant flat-screen TV mounted on the front of the [building]. Unlimited Pepsi and free Prozac for everyone. We’ll show reruns of Jerry Springer and have old book burnings. I think I’ll run for City Council. That’s a damn fine platform.

    It was the county, not the city, who sold that piece of land with the magnolia tree.
    It hasn’t come to city council yet for a vote…
    or at least that’s how I understand it.

    Yes, that was county land; the city has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, neither does the county any more. Someone blundered on that one.

    Asheville needs the housing, especially since it is already illegal to sleep under the Magnolia tree, which minimises it’s value anyway.

    That magnolia tree is at least 100 years old…. what is the life expectancy of a magnolia?
