Congratulations to Mountain Xpress for having won “a slew of new awards” [“Letter From the Editors,” July 5].
I very much enjoy reading the Xpress, particularly the letters to the editor and the interesting range of advertising.
I especially enjoy the fact that many of the articles I read are evergreen to me, in that whatever I read I’m hearing about for the first time—like all the news about the growth of Haywood Avenue in West Asheville and the efforts of Leicester to separate from Asheville.
From what I read in the dailies and on the Internet, much of the country is experiencing a big decline in home values—but not Asheville. Prices here appear to be relatively stable, and from what I see, homes are still going up all over the place and both Lowe’s and Home Depot seem to be busy. This suggests that builders are confident that Asheville is still growing. That also means that there is a very strong need for a weekly like yours.
