There are more than 500 homeless people in the city, according to an annual count done by local homeless-service agencies, Homeless Coalition officials announced yesterday. Amy Sawyer, the city’s Homeless Initiative Coordinator, noted that the count, down from last year, does not reflect the full population, which is expected to rise with tightening economic conditions.

Introducing the Homeless Management Information System
Representatives from the Carolina Homeless Information Network (CHIN) will provide an orientation on Monday, March 3 to community members and stakeholders interested in learning about the Homeless Information Management System (HMIS). The orientation will take place at 11 a.m. in the fifth floor conference room in Asheville City Hall.

This afternoon about a dozen homeless persons and their advocates staged a brief but impassioned rally in Asheville’s Pritchard Park to denounce a City Council member’s call for photos of “vagrant/addict misbehavior.”
