Western North Carolina’s recording professionals speak up about the climate of their industry, from the proliferation of full-fledged, home-based studios to musicians’ piecemeal assembly of modern albums.
Local musician and composer Danny Peck, aka dep, has set a challenge for himself this month: To compose, record and post one song each day. The project, called Mayday 2015, is being updated a song at a time on Bandcamp and Facebook.
Slim, with his band The Law, plays two Asheville shows (tonight and tomorrow). Echo Mountain will record the concerts.
Local producer Ben Gradison is traveling through Africa, helping to build studios, deliver equipment, and train youth and adults to create and record music. Follow his work (and listen to the music he’s recording with African groups) on his blog. Photo from the Likoni and Arusha Studio Projects blog.
