Each Friday evening, Bobo Gallery in Asheville hosts “Green Drinks,” a gathering of thirsty environmentalists who want to meet up, swap ideas and raise a glass.
This week’s featured guest is Mountain Xpress’ own Rebecca Bowe, who writes the Green Scene environmental-news feature. She’ll give a short talk and lead a discussion on “The Gray Area Between Green and Greenwashing.”
An editorial assistant and writer at Xpress for the past year and a half, Bowe majored in English and Environmental Studies at Oberlin College. Her writing has also appeared in E: The Environmental Magazine, Terrain Magazine and Appalachian Voice, among other publications.
“Appearing ‘green’ has become a corporate value,” Bowe notes. “Should grassroots environmentalists celebrate this development? Or should they be more skeptical than ever of companies that wave the green banner?” To find the answer to those questions, she says, environmentalists “need to be both open-minded and on guard.”
Green Drinks convenes at 6:30 p.m. at Bobo (22 N. Lexington Avenue; 254-3426). For more information, click here.
